Headmaster
Welcome to our commemorative coronation edition of this week’s newsletter – definitely one to keep!
It has been a brilliant, if shorter week than usual and we have managed to fit in an awful lot. I couldn’t be more grateful to our Friends of Windlesham team and helpers (plus providers of scones and cakes) for the fantastic celebratory Coronation Tea yesterday afternoon. The sun shone and well over 100 families and children enjoyed the community spirt, music and delicious food in a relaxed and very convivial atmosphere. All provided by the Friends without cost, plus packets of wildflower seeds thrown it. Thank you to everyone involved!
Our special coronation assembly this morning saw the MFT packed to the rafters with pupils and all staff and it was the perfect way to celebrate and commemorate tomorrow’s event. Given that it has been 70 years since the last coronation, I hope I can also be forgiven for overrunning slightly! Individual musical performances, poetry readings, 30 fascinating coronation facts from the history department and some brilliant videos of work completed this week from Reception and Year 3 all meant it was another of those Windlesham special occasions. The #GreatBritKnit campaign meant that the theatre was bedecked in red, white and blue finger knitted swags along with knitted blankets, pom-pom trees and God’s Eyes. In the absence of having the indomitable Norris McWhirter present, I informally announced a finger knitting world record broken and I very much doubt any other school in the country was able to boast such a display!
The children and staff have really embraced all the opportunities available this week and as I write, the sun is coming out for our House picnic lunches and games this afternoon. Whatever, your plans this weekend, I hope you all have a wonderful and memorable time.
Best wishes
Ben
