Boarding
We can’t quite believe how much fun has been packed into just four days! Having returned from the long weekend ready for Tuesday morning, the boarders have certainly had an eventful week.
Tuesday was a busy day; Year 4 boarders enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Roman Palace at Fishbourne, a competitive golf match against Westbourne House and a thought-provoking knowledge night for Year 8 - asking: ‘Is our universe a hologram?’. We had some differences of opinion on whether we are living in a simulation in dorms afterwards, as well as lots of sleepy smiles from Year 4 who had learnt all about what life was like for the Fishborne Romans living in their beautiful palace.
The sunshine came out with a vengeance on Wednesday for the girls’ athletics at Westbourne House and cricket fixtures against Copthorne Prep. Well done to everyone who took part and competed so enthusiastically. You did yourselves and the school proud. It really is starting to feel like summer is on its way and we are noticing that the curtains in dorms are getting shut just that little bit later each day, as the time before sunset stretches out.
Year 5 were hot on the heels of Year 4 on Thursday, with their own exciting trip to Marwell Zoo. Not only did the boarders love seeing all of the animals and spending the day with their friends in the sunshine, it was also an amazing learning experience, as Marwell is a centre of excellence for educating children about conservation and the positive work happening to look after endangered species. The children loved their time at the zoo. Thursday was also a day for netball fixtures followed by parents enjoying a very delicious Coronation tea in the afternoon.
Talking of the Coronation, the boarders have continued to throw themselves into the school’s preparations for such a momentous, historic occasion. From artwork, to creating bunting, finger knitting and making food, the children have been busy both in school and dorms. We are looking forward to our special Coronation lunch and celebrations today. A big thank you to the catering team for such a special picnic lunch.
We wish everyone a fantastic weekend of Coronation celebrations.
